Emma Watson’s sartorial take on Juliet is breathtaking

The 2020 Pirelli Calendar by Paolo Roversi is a tribute to love, and more specifically to Shakespeare’s Juliet – and there’s not a Romeo in sight. The photographer said, ‘I am still searching for my Juliet and I will be searching all my life. Because Juliet is a dream’ and so he invited several personalities to audition for the famous role, for his project entitled ‘Looking For Juliet’.

These included British actors Claire Foy, Mia Goth and the British actor and activist Emma Watson, the American actors Indya Moore, Yara Shahidi and Kristen Stewart, the Chinese singer Chris Lee, the Spanish singer Rosalia, and the Franco-Italian artist Stella Roversi, who all auditioned by reading excerpts from Shakespeare’s play.

They all had to depict how they see Juliet, through poses, poses and outfits, injecting their own personalities into the heroin.

So, Emma Watson opted for a bright pink gown with a white veil, thus choosing to depict Juliet’s bolder and feminine side, with a hint of virginal innocence.

Meanwhile, Claire Foy opted for a dramatic look, with a crown, waist length red hair and lots of feathers and gold.

Kristen Stewart on the other hand, chose a more androgynous look of wide leg white trousers and a black blazer.

The photographer told Vogue, ‘I wanted a true casting, with women who would correspond to a kind of a journey featuring women of today from different countries and cultures.’

Yara Shahidi wanted to look like herself, but with a Victorian twist, so she said, ‘I love my curls, so we turned them into a crown’.
