Kanye West designs ‘Blexit’ clothing line encouraging black Americans to quit Democratic party

Kanye West brought his personal politics into the fashion arena this weekend, as he unveiled a line of apparel for a conservative campaign encouraging black Americans to quit the Democratic Party.

Blexit, an amalgam word for “Black Exit,” is a movement spearheaded by YouTube star and TV presenter Candace Owens. On the website, Blexit describes itself as “a frequency for those who have released themselves from the political orthodoxy. It is a rebellion led by Americans wishing to disrupt the simulation of fear. Blexit is a renaissance. It is our formal declaration of independence.”

The merchandise, which proudly touts “Design by Kanye West,” debuted at the Turning Point USA’s Young Black Leadership Summit, the conservative advocacy group of which Owens is director of communications. West was not present at the event in Washington on Sunday.

The line features a selection of aqua, salmon and lilac tees and denim hats with the words ‘Blexit’ and ‘We Free’ boldly printed on the front, and ranges in price from $25-$28.

“Blexit is a renaissance and I am blessed to say that this logo, these colours, were created by my dear friend and fellow superhero Kanye West,” Owens told Page Six.

She said West “has taken one of the boldest steps in America to open a conversation we have needed to have”.

West’s ‘Blexit’ efforts will no doubt please his pal President Donald Trump, with whom he met earlier this month in the Oval Office (wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ cap) and has outspokenly supported since the 2016 election.

The clothes were part of a broader launch of Blexit.com, which includes testimonials from black Americans who have left the Democratic Party.

Owens said there will be a Blexit tour to major cities including Chicago and Philadelphia, starting next year.

“The Blexit movement will spend 2019 holding rallies in every major city in America that the Democrats have destroyed,” she told Page Six.
